Arachno-video

Posted by Steve on September 30th, 2008

Every fall the garden spiders start building lots of webs around our house and fattening up before the winter. The one in this video built its web just outside our living room window.

If you’d rather not watch the crappy-looking YouTube version of this video, there’s a couple things to try.

Watch the superior-looking version in [...]

Hike along Brice Creek

Posted by Steve on September 22nd, 2008

We took the kids out on another short hike on Sunday. This time, our destination was Brice Creek in the Umpqua National Forest. I have several things to share from this trip. First, there’s the cute shot of Jen and the kids at right. (To view the larger version of that photo, you’ll need to [...]

Smoky sunset

Posted by Steve on September 17th, 2008

The skies around Eugene, OR, have become hazy over the past couple days as the smoke from fires burning to the south and east has drifted into the area. Some residents even reported deposits of ash on cars parked outside overnight. To make matters worse, farmers to the north are plowing their fields this time [...]

Eugene Celebration Parade videos

Posted by Steve on September 15th, 2008

You can also watch a significantly higher-quality version of the video above in our Me.com gallery.
In addition, it turns out our neighbors were in the parade this year. So, for them I assembled a separate video of “The Peace Train” entry and Rob Handy’s campaign group. You’re welcome to watch it as well!

After a quick breakfast consisting of bagels and cream cheese leftover from the aforementioned parade, we got our [...]

Proxy Falls video

Posted by Steve on September 6th, 2008

Why not take two minutes away from your stressful, busy day and watch this peaceful little video of our hike to Proxy Falls? It will transport you to the Three Sisters Wilderness, where vine maples grow like twigs of green, orange, and red paint from the charcoal grey lava rocks that are their canvas. Then, [...]

Day trip to Proxy Falls & McKenzie Pass

Posted by Steve on September 3rd, 2008

On Sunday, we had a great day hiking with the kids to Proxy Falls off the old McKenzie Highway. What a gorgeous — and accessible — area! For years, Jen and I passed up this spot because it’s such a short hike (1 mile loop) for how long it takes to get there (about 80 [...]

Humble harvest

Posted by Steve on September 1st, 2008

In case you hadn’t heard, the gardening gods that normally bestow glorious growing conditions upon the Willamette Valley apparently turned their attention elsewhere this summer. Our weather has been cooler and wetter this year, though not dramatically so, but we’ve also had abrupt shifts from hot to cool. Apparently, these patterns have confused a lot [...]
