Oregon Coast Trip - Oregon Coast Aquarium
Posted by Steve on April 26th, 2008During our trip to the Oregon Coast last month, we made a couple visits to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. (In fact, we actually became aquarium members for the first time.) During our first visit, which happened to be on Easter morning, we got a rare treat:
That’s the Giant Pacific Octopus (whose name might actually be Atlantis) they have on display. On most visits to the aquarium, the octopus is usually huddled in a far corner of the tank. But on this day, we were given a fantastic display as the graceful creature furled and unfurled its tentacles and slid back and forth across the glass window:
Even better, no one else happened by the display the entire time!
Jen and I don’t do much diving these days, but in our pre-kid days we encountered (and photographed) several giant pacific octopuses while diving in the waters of Puget Sound and British Columbia. They are truly magnificent and fascinating creatures. I’ve collected a few of my octopus shots here:
