Does the saying, “April showers bring May flowers,” apply to snow showers?

The weather around here (Eugene, OR) just gets weirder and weirder. It was predicted in the newspaper, but I had absolutely zero faith that we would see snow this morning — at least not down where we live. But sure enough, when Evan got out of bed at 7am sharp and took a peek outside, his words were clear: “IT SNOWED!”

This, after record-setting temperatures in the mid-80s last weekend! They’re saying it’s been something like 50 years since we’ve had temperatures drop so low this late in the year. I certainly can’t recall ever getting snow so late in the 15+ years I’ve lived in Eugene.

Knowing it would melt quickly, I snapped a few shots. The photo above shows a drop of melting snow hanging off a crabapple blossom. Ironically, over the past three days, the crabapple blossoms were just starting to open up.
