Well, it’s taken 38 years, but now I really feel that I’ve made something of my life.

I’m getting a good laugh out of the fact that I won Bob Welch’s recent Oregon limerick contest! But no, I’m not planning on launching my poetry career any time soon.

For those not familiar with the situation, Bob is a columnist for the Register-Guard newspaper, published in Eugene, OR. In honor of Oregon’s February 14th birthday, he held a contest in which he asked his readers to submit limericks about an Oregon place or geographical feature. Out of the nearly 300 limericks he received, one of my entries actually came out on top. My “muse” was none other than Oregon’s Exploding Whale (of course!).
