Akismet stops blog spam in its tracks!
Posted by Steve on March 22nd, 2006
I just need to make a quick endorsement for a tool I’ve been using on this blog for the past several months. The product, Akismet, is an add-on to WordPress that blocks comment and trackback spam. If the sign of an effective spam-blocking tool is that you can install it and then forget about it, Akismet fits the bill. Since I installed it 3-4 months ago, Akismet has silently neutralized nearly 800 spam comments on this blog. Not once has it erroneously classified something as spam, and on only a few occasions has it been unsure about whether something was spam or not. In the latter case, if you subsequently mark the item as spam, the whole Akismet system learns from the mistake.
Simple, unobtrusive, and accurate — there’s little more I could ask for in a spam-blocker! Give Akismet a try today!

Done. I had a bit of trouble getting that API key, but other than that: How easy to set up!!! Great tip, thanks!

Sylke, you should install Akismet today! It integrates seemlessly into your WP blog and gets the job done.
By the way, as of this morning, Akismet has knocked out 850 spam comments. Wahoo!

Interesting
You might have read in my blog that I had an increase on spam lately. If things get worse I’ll follow your recommendation and try this out. I was going to look for something anyways so you might have saved me some time!
