Disposer deposed prior to disposal
Posted by Steve on March 21st, 2006
Mere weeks before it was to be ripped out and thrown away along with the rest of our current kitchen, the food disposer in our sink decided to die this week. Even though a new one is already included in the kitchen remodel estimate from our builder, I was forced to go out tonight and buy a new one. I decided to buy a cheap one ($69) and sort of jury-rig it into place — basically, use it for the next 4-6 weeks and then replace it with the nicer model the builder was planning to use. The installation was pretty straightforward once I finagled various pieces of plastic pipe into connecting with the existing drain line. (Only had to make one additional trip to Home Depot!) It’s not pretty, but it should serve its purpose for the next few weeks. On the upside, the new one is significantly quieter than the old one. (Of course, it’s also 1/2 HP instead of 3/4 HP!) Anyway, if anyone is interested in a lightly-used food disposer, let me know — I should have one available in a few weeks.
