What’s Gauss been up to lately?

I was looking through our blog and noticed that Gauss hasn’t had an entry for awhile. Some of you may be wondering what’s he been up to over the last few months. This last year he had a little slower paced Christmas morning, but still got his usual number of presents and a fun stocking. Here is a picture of Gauss working on his gaint bone from Grandpa and Grandma.
In addition, we take him with us on most weekend trips to visit family. Gauss is still going to agility class once each week, goes for walks, and usually once a week plays a games inside or outside with Steve or myself. Day to day, he has a regular routine he follows, and seems to be adjusting well to the new family dynamics.
Gauss’s Daily Routine
- He sleeps in as long as we let him in the morning and then goes outside for a quick bathroom break and sniff around the yard.
- Next he comes inside for a treat and some pets.
- Then he climbs into his chair in the playroom to gaze outside at the birds and squirrels in our backyard, and to stay a safe distance from little Evan.
- In about an hour, it’s time for a power nap on the office futon during Evan’s morning nap.
- After Evan is up again, Gauss spends time walking around looking for a bone or toy to amuse himself with. He knows that lunch will be soon.
- While Evan and I eat our lunch, Gauss lays nearby waiting for the leftovers. He loves homemade baby food.
- Gauss happily eats the lunch leftovers and then heads for a warm (sometimes sunny) spot to sleep.
- After his afternoon nap, he spends time outside and looking forward to some afternoon fun. Sometimes we go for walk or he comes with us on our errands.
- Gauss takes another powernap about 30 minutes before Steve comes home.
- Then he is always there waiting for Steve with a wagging tail.
- After a brief greeting, Gauss stays close to us as we go through the early evening tasks of playing with Evan and getting him ready for bed.
- His evenings vary more depending on the day. Sometimes he just hangs out with us and other times we play games. Of course, one night each week he heads off with me to agility class for a night of fun.
- At the end of each day, he always heads off to his bed with a cookie.
Life has changed for Gauss now that Evan is part of our family. He’s not the center of attention he used to be, but he does have company during the day and gets to go outside more often. He is a wonderful dog and for the most part — we think — a happy one.
