Hitting the High Notes

Posted by Steve on August 4th, 2005

Joel Spolsky has written an entertaining article called Hitting the High Notes in which he ponders whether it makes sense to talk about a company having the “best” programmers. In this day and age of cost reductions and outsourcing, Joel bucks the conventional wisdom and makes a case for quality. Here’s an excerpt:

Essentially, design adds value faster than it adds cost. Or, roughly speaking, if you try to skimp on programmers, you’ll make crappy software, and you won’t even save that much money.

I don’t know Joel, but I like him already. :-)
