Jungle Status
Posted by Steve on July 13th, 2005 For the first time ever, I’m going to claim “jungle” status for our garden. Almost everything is doing great this year now that we’ve eradicated the invading tree roots and the soil has had a chance to balance out. So, here’s an update on where things stand . . . .
The peppers are doing ok considering that we haven’t had any extreme heat yet and that the zucchini plants are overtaking them; lots of blossoms, but no peppers yet. The “zukes” are going crazy. There are only two plants, but we can not eat enough zucchini to keep up. The tomato plants have never been so huge. They are seriously 5 feet tall and are starting to produce fruit. The pole beans have maxed out their pole; I am hoping they will start growing beans soon. The other squash plants have just started to produce some fruit. The salad greens are done for now, but we may buy some fresh seeds and plant another crop; we’ll be more fussy about thinning them this time. The little spider shown here was doing his best to reduce the bug population around the tomato plants.
